How We Plan and Build the Unit

1

Discuss the intended use

We start with the reason for the unit, the people who will use it, and the functions the floor plan must support.

2

Review property access

We check how workers, materials, and equipment can reach the build area before delivery and construction plans are set.

3

Develop the floor plan

We place rooms, fixtures, circulation paths, and finish needs within a layout that matches the project goals.

4

Coordinate utilities and foundation

We connect utility needs and foundation planning to the proposed layout before construction work begins.

5

Review the project scope

We explain the planned construction, finish work, pricing, and timeline before the project moves into production.

6

Complete construction and handover

We coordinate construction, finish upgrades, final details, and handover for the completed space.

Why Owners Choose This Build Approach

Design and construction stay connected

The design plan and construction scope develop together, so layout choices connect to real building work. This fits owners who want one team to manage the project from concept through handover.

Access gets attention before delivery

Material movement and equipment placement need a workable route. We discuss those limits before construction begins, so the plan reflects the property instead of treating access as an afterthought.

The scope stays open to review

A consultation helps define the floor plan, utility needs, foundation approach, and finishes before you request a quote. This service is not the right fit for a small repair or a single-room update.

Licensed and insured oversight

Our project oversight is licensed and insured. We also bring commercial-grade construction experience to projects that need careful coordination across several trades.

A client scenario this service addresses

A property owner plans a separate living space but has not checked how materials will reach the build area. We review the route, work area, utility connections, foundation approach, and floor plan before the construction scope is finalized. That sequence gives the owner a clearer decision about whether the planned unit fits the property and intended use.

Choosing the Right Starting Point for Your Unit

These options differ by the work the property owner needs planned before construction.

Best remodel experience we have ever had. The oversight, careful workmanship and ownership of the project was above expectations. Our design team was amazing. We also had the same person do all the work start to finish and was a total Pro. Could not recommend enough and will be doing any and all projects through them. This place is a gem.

Linda and her team did an excellent job! We would highly recommend them. We hired her for a kitchen remodel and asked for a very tight timeline. She delivered and we absolutely love the result. She was very commutative and available to us. Thank you Design and Build NW!

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Questions About Planning an Accessory Dwelling Unit

What should I plan before building an accessory dwelling unit?

Site access should be planned before building an accessory dwelling unit. The route affects material delivery, equipment placement, worker movement, and household disruption.

  • Confirm the access route and work area.
  • Discuss utility connections and fixture locations.
  • Review the foundation type and floor plan.
  • Prepare available property plans for the consultation.

These details help define the construction scope before work starts.

How does the property layout shape the unit design?

The property layout shapes room placement, access, utility routes, and foundation planning. A floor plan must fit the intended use and the space available for construction.

We review circulation, fixture locations, and work areas before the design is finalized. That review helps connect the unit’s daily function with the physical limits of the property.

Which utility details should I gather first?

Utility connection points, fixture needs, and planned room uses should be gathered first. Those details help place kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas, and service routes.

Bring any existing plans or utility information you have. We can then discuss how the floor plan and construction scope should account for those connections.

When should permit review enter the project plan?

Permit review should enter the project plan before construction details are finalized. The review can affect drawings, site planning, utility work, and the proposed foundation.

We include permit review in the planning discussion so the project scope reflects the required steps. The exact approval path depends on the property and the applicable jurisdiction.

Why does the foundation type matter for an accessory dwelling unit?

The foundation type matters because it supports the structure and sets the base for the floor plan. It also affects site preparation, utility routing, and construction sequencing.

We discuss the foundation approach alongside the intended use and property layout. That keeps the base, rooms, and service connections tied to one build plan.

What changes the quote for this type of unit?

The floor plan, foundation work, utility connections, access conditions, and finish selections change the quote. Each choice adds scope that must be reviewed with the rest of the build.

A consultation gives us the project details needed for a quote. We explain what the proposed scope includes before construction begins.

Who manages design and construction for the unit?

HomeRemodelSnoqualmie.link manages accessory dwelling unit construction from design planning through construction and handover. We coordinate the project scope and finish work.

Our team works with homeowners and commercial clients. The consultation covers the intended use, floor plan, utilities, foundation approach, access, and selected finishes.
