Why does my new interior door keep rubbing after installation?

A rubbing door often points to an opening, hinge, jamb, or alignment issue. The frame and reveal need inspection before the door is adjusted. Seasonal movement, uneven framing, or a change in floor height can affect the fit. We check the opening and hardware, then explain whether adjustment, trim work, or a different door slab fits the job.

Interior Door Installation for Bryn Mawr-Skyway Spaces

Interior door installation focuses on the opening, the door material, and the way the room is used. This page is for buyers comparing wood veneer, hollow core, solid core, MDF doors, and French doors before requesting a quote.

The right choice depends on privacy, sound control, light flow, visual style, and the existing frame. A door replacement may fit an existing opening, while a layout change can call for added trim, framing, drywall, or finish work.

The local decision is often simple: confirm the room purpose and the opening condition first. A bedroom, office, bathroom, and commercial room may each need a different balance of privacy, weight, light, and appearance.

  • Confirm the room's purpose and the privacy level the door should provide.
  • Check the existing opening, jamb, floor clearance, swing, and trim.
  • Compare hollow core, solid core, MDF, wood veneer, and French door styles.
  • Identify hardware, casing, baseboard, and paint or stain needs.
  • Ask for a quote based on the selected door and actual site conditions.

Service Overview

Interior door installation is a carpentry service that fits a door, frame, hinges, latch, trim, and related hardware inside a property.

  • Door replacement changes an existing opening, while a new opening may require layout changes and broader remodeling work.
  • We provide this service for residential and commercial properties in Bryn Mawr-Skyway.

Decisions That Shape the Door Installation

Match the door to the room

The room's use should guide the choice between privacy, light, sound control, weight, and style. A bathroom may need more privacy, while an office may benefit from a stronger door slab.

Check the opening before ordering

The existing jamb, floor height, swing, and trim affect the fit. Ordering a door before checking those parts can create extra work or leave the wrong clearance.

Know when remodeling is broader

This service fits door replacement and related finish work. It is the wrong job when the project needs major wall removal, structural framing, or a full layout change without a broader remodeling scope.

A client scenario this service addresses

A homeowner planning a room update may find that the door opening, trim, and floor height do not line up with the chosen style. We inspect those parts first, then set the door and finish scope around the actual opening.

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Leaving a long overdue review. Linda helped us remodel our bathroom and kitchen last year. We also did some flooring improvements, and some electrical and plumbing work along the way. The pricing was very reasonable, and we appreciated that Linda was always conscious of our budget, when we made adjustments to our plan. The work was delivered very quickly on promised timelines. She had some really good suggestions around the choice of flooring, which we are thankful for (especially looking back after a year). Also appreciate her sense of style.. it helped us make the right choices for countertops, tiles and fixtures. It all looks great, our guests often comment on how beautiful our kitchen looks. Thank you!

Best remodel experience we have ever had. The oversight, careful workmanship and ownership of the project was above expectations. Our design team was amazing. We also had the same person do all the work start to finish and was a total Pro. Could not recommend enough and will be doing any and all projects through them. This place is a gem.

Questions About Interior Door Installation

Which interior door materials and styles are available?

Wood veneer, hollow core, solid core, MDF doors, and French doors are available options. Wood veneer suits a natural finish, while MDF supports a smooth painted look. Hollow core keeps weight lower, and solid core adds weight and sound control. French doors increase light flow between rooms. The opening, privacy needs, hardware, and finish should guide the final choice.

What should I prepare before the installer reviews the opening?

Room use, preferred style, swing direction, and nearby furniture help shape the review. Keep the doorway accessible and note any flooring, trim, or paint work planned nearby. Photos can help start the discussion, but the jamb, floor clearance, and casing still need an on-site check. Those details help set a quote around the real scope.

How does the opening condition change the work plan?

An uneven jamb, tight floor clearance, damaged trim, or mismatched hinge layout can change the installation plan. The opening gets checked before the door is ordered or fitted. Small trim or hardware changes may solve the issue, while wall or layout changes need a broader remodeling scope. The consultation separates door work from larger construction needs.

Why would a solid core door suit an office?

A solid core door can suit an office when added weight and sound control matter. The frame and hinges must support the selected door, and the swing needs clear space. Our team checks the jamb, latch, casing, and floor clearance before fitting it. A hollow core door may fit better when lower weight is the main concern.

When should I request a quote for a door change?

Request a quote before ordering the door when the opening, trim, or room layout may change. The selected material and style affect the hardware, frame, finish, and fitting work. A free consultation gives us the project context needed to discuss scope. This step also helps separate a door replacement from a wider remodel.

Can French doors fit an existing interior opening?

French doors can fit an existing opening when the width, height, swing, trim, and frame support the pair. The opening must also allow both doors to move without striking furniture or nearby walls. We check those conditions before setting the hardware and casing scope. A larger opening may require related framing and finish work.
